We take it all back, this is an impressive, accomplished body of work, Muse are now the indie Queen in the most positive sense. Origin Of Symmetry in an ambitious album, a Fritz Lang movie of an album. Regular visitors to Organart.com will know that some of us have not exactly been fans of Muse - the new single (second from this album) New Born hinted at something that would make us totally change our minds and New Born was indeed no false dawn.
Origin Of Symmetry is a nu-prog delight from start to finish (even Plug In Baby sounds good as part of the album). It's a brave new world, it's where bands dare to be grandiose again (it's surely no coincidence that The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is currently the coolest album to name drop), it's where rules are broken again. Hey, this is so good we can name drop Cardiacs in the review - especially in the crunchy Blurisms of "Hyper Music" or the English fairground euphoria of "Citizen Erased" or the almost classically baroque nature of "Micro Cuts" (it really does out do Freddie Mercury). This is a rock album, not a throwaway nu-metal album that'll be forgotten in eighteen months, a seriously good rock album, a album drenched in operatic pomp, requiems for the eternally evolving - an album that will still be talked of in years to come like Queen albums or Zeppelin albums or Genesis albums are now, an album that will be loved long long after things like Papa Roach will have been forgotten. No longer are Muse a little English indie band, Muse are now a serious world-wide contender of a rock band, when most rock bands are loosing their purpose and the world is plagued by throwaway marketing brands like Limp Bizkit Muse are suddenly doing it properly, we take it all back - Muse are the rebirth of prog rock cool, they're not the indie Queen, they ARE the new Queen. Highly recommended. Sean Worrall Sean at Organart.com (hi!) |
