big thanks to michele for letting me use this review :) Muse hit us with their raw and powerful, yet deliciously delicate tunes last year. They introduced us to the re-awakening of 'freshened - up' rock, mixing heavy riffs with smooth tinkling melodies to produce what can only be referred to as 'musical wonder'. Since then, obsessive fans, stalkers, and mere music appreciators have kept their eyes and ears open to see if Muse can deliver the same impact they did with their debut. Now, with the release of Plug In Baby - our first official taster of the forthcoming second album, spectators' eyes and ears have been blasted to pieces by the sheer beauty of what we mundanely refer to as 'a song'. The main riff of the song is catchy and simple, yet ragged and bold and somehow, mysteriously complex sounding. The drums clashing away in the back adds strength and density to the overall song. The bass booms providing a sturdy undercurrent of sound that acts as a solid foundation for the rest of the piece. Matt Bellamy's voice is crystal clear and piercing. Passionate, powerful and pure - successfully conveying the tense emotion behind the lyrics that are on par with his emotive performance. The verses are sung in soft, hushed tones, the snaring words whispering round your ears. The short build up to the chorus is tense, drums beating steadily and rapidly like an athletes pulse. Finally ascending to the climax - Bellamy's voice seizing the words with his powerful voice and throwing them into musical oblivion - an effect that will make you giddy with delight. "My plug in baby, crucifies my enemies, when I'm tired of living..." the words are harsh, troubled and almost sinister. They are sung by a seemingly fragile voice, with such force, and backed by such powerful music, you are consumed by the sound. Muse fans, revel in delight... Radiohead fans, surrender. MUA HAHAHAHAHAHA. [ click here to go back ] |
